| The 1st Annual Shady Springs Youth Camp Reunion was held on Saturday the 2nd of October, 2004 on the grounds of the Shady Springs Camp. The Shady Springs campground is located in south central Indiana, half way between Indianapolis and Louisville, about 12 miles east of Bedord on US Highway 50. The reunion was put together by Sis Karen Dalton. Sis Karen is the wife of camp chairman Rev Larry Dalton. She put the reunion together at the request of others who thought it would be really nice to be able to come back to the camp and make new acquaintences with old friends. Bro Bill and Sis Phyllis Addis were the special invited guests. Bro Bill and Sis Phyllis were pretty much permanent fixtures at the campgrounds for the first 20+ years of it's existence.
The campground was the vision of Bro Floyd Ray, who pastored at Seymour. The first service on the grounds at Shady took place in 1959. Bro Floyd was tragically killed in a car wreck before the first youth camp ever came to fruition, but his vision lives on and has taken mighty wings of flight. Thousands of youth in the Central and Southern sections of Indiana, Southwestern Ohio and Northern Kentucky have came through the camps there each year. Bro and Sis Addis' first year at Shady was a real experience, they were the speakers, counselors, cooks and babysitters to nearly 100 kids. At that time the board evidently didn't realize just what it was asking of them. Eventually the camp grew and many others willingly took part. Although not as many people showed up for the first reunion as we hoped, there were several folks there that were present at the very first camp and many that were present at other camps since. Thanks to Sis Karen Dalton for her efforts in getting this put together and for all those that attended. Our hope is that the camp reunion will continue to grow just as the camp itself has. |
